Running errands
Some days you just have to get out of lock down. Yesterday, I had an appointment in Twin Falls to get a remote start put into my car. Since it was going to take a good chunk of the day to get it done, Aaron drove down too so that we could cross some errands off the list. Mom and Emily rode along, and since we didn't know about the timing, we also took Faryn, the diabetic dog, along since she needs to stay on an eating/insulin schedule. We couldn't leave Gerda, the other dog, home alone, so she went too. We take turns running into stores while someone stays in the car with Emily. But, gasp, we were feeling pretty brave yesterday and took Emily into a restaurant (there were no other customers at the time). For a moment, life was normal.
Aaron started building a couch a few years ago, it's a long story, but that couch was cut up today to be reincarnated as the crib. The wood arrived, but it was the wrong kind of maple, and it appears that we can't get the maple we wanted. So, plan B is to make it out of quarter sawn oak. (I think Plan C is to buy a crib...) Aaron took the chainsaw to the couch today so that he could use some pieces in the crib.

Rice Cereal - First Attempt
Thursday, January 7, 2010
Six Month Appointment
First, the stats - 13 pounds and 5 ounces and 23 inches long. She's caught the growth curve for both weight and head circumference and is almost there for length. The big change is that we get to introduce her to rice cereal now.
The doctor was pleased that her head has lost its catawampus shape and with Emily's fine head control. Emily was her smiling, charming self right through her 4 shots (immunization and syniges). She thought momentarily about crying, but it was over before she knew it and was intrigued by the giant mirror in the room. She is a little fussy this evening, but finally just went down. I guess she got poked and prodded enough in her NICU life that today's drama was nothing.
The doctor was disappointed that we hadn't been back to the therapy group she recommended. For those that didn't hear, the therapist that comes to our home each week through the infant toddler program and the therapy group the doctor recommends have no respect for each other and by going to both I feel like I was pushed into a cat fight. When I explained to the doctor today that Aaron and I felt the pneumonia was because of our visit to the therapist last time, she was understanding but felt like it was a bad idea to wait because any bad habits would have already been formed (like the back arching Emily has always done). So, the pediatrician is calling the therapist to see what can be arranged so that we get services and keep Emily healthy. And I learned my lesson that I won't tell one that therapist that I'm seeing the other.
So, no more appointments for a month, than we have three in two days - an eye appointment, the NICU follow up clinic, and then the third syniges...
