Yardwork

In between rain showers on Memorial Day, we tried to get some work done on the yard.  Mission #1 was to repair the damage done by the vole society that takes up residence over the winter.  Emily absolutely LOVES to be outside - rain or shine, windy or still, cold or warm.  Here she is doing her part -

The Start of Summer???

Look beyond Emily and you'll see the snow on the ground.  Happy to report that by this afternoon it was gone.

Last night Emily was covering up Gerda with her blanket and telling her "Night, night G!"

Early bird was up at 6 this morning, so we had plenty of time this morning to color, then play outside in the little bit of sunshine that is starting off the holiday weekend.

Congratulations Sam!

Congratulations Cousin Sam on your high school graduation! Sorry we couldn't make it back for it!

23 months???

Hard to believe in less than a month Emily will be two.  Wow.  She still loves to read and color when stuck indoors, and we've been working on naming colors.  She continues to love the dogs.  But at the moment, outside seems to be her favorite.  She's quite content just to wander the yard and the empty lots adjacent to our property.  At daycare, she loves the slide and will go up the ladder all by herself to do it.
She's talking a lot these days, by the way.

No Monkeys!

Within the last couple days, Emily has started to chime in during favorite songs of hers.  She'll join you in the alphabet, Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes and her (current) favorite - No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.  Okay, it's not really a song, but you get the point.

Playtime

Finally a nice spring day!  We took the bubbles outdoors and played most of the afternoon.
Notice the rain boots? You might be seeing a lot of these in pictures to come.  She loves these boots.  Maybe because she can put them on all by herself?  She has worn them for 2 days straight, and my guess when we tell her tomorrow to go get her shoes for school, she'll grab these boots.

Her play dough eggs from Easter.  They went outside too.  Lately she has been pretty excited about birds and she caught on tonight that there is a robin in a nest on our front porch.
40 seconds of spinning to music.  She still loves music.  She went to the Spring Jazz concert at my school this past week and danced and clapped while the kids sang, but didn't have any patience for the talking parts so we did a lot of going back and forth between the gymnasium and the hallway.  My students thought she was pretty cute, but she wasn't as crazy about them!

Emily's conversation-
"Hello.  Okay.  Bye-bye!"

I'm surprised she wasn't trying to send a text!

Time Goes Quickly

I'm not sure how a week can by so fast.

The days are getting warmer, and longer, so we're spending more time outside.  And Emily loves being outside.  This past week she has started sitting and digging in the dirt.  And now that she knows how to open the doors, she'll help herself to the outside, so we're now locking our doors more often.

Indoors, it's still all about coloring with crayons, markers, an ink pen... whatever she can get her hands on!  She's talking all the time now, and using a lot of phrases.  She believes all farm animals say "Moo!" and seems to have picked the monkey as her favorite zoo animal.  And she continues to be very excited about balloons and bubbles.  She'll help you count 1,2,3.  There doesn't seem to be a piece of furniture that she cannot climb onto.  She loves popsicles and fruit snacks, knows where they are kept, and doesn't understand that they aren't a healthy breakfast choice.  She's trying to put on her own shoes, coat, and hat.  Hard to believe she'll be 2 in less than two months!
The Hughstons purchased a Prius yesterday.  Yes, it was cheaper for us to get a hybrid than it is to fill up the truck with gas every time we ran to Twin Falls or Boise.
