Gem State Invitational

Today was the Gem State Invitational at the Century Link Arena in downtown Boise, and it was Emily's best meet yet of the season.

First off was beam.  She had a slight wobble, but managed to stay on!  She scored a 9.0 and scored 5th.

Next it was off to floor.  She remembered her routine this time!  Her score was a 9.20 and was 3rd place.

Then it was over to vault.  She scored a 9.050 and placed 2nd.

Last was bars, and her best event of the day.  She took first place with a 9.450!

Emily was 3rd all around and the SMAS team placed first!

The weeks are flying by!

Emily has finished her first session of ski school and has started the second.  She was happy to keep the same instructor and group of kids.  You know she's happy when it's pick up time after skiing for four hours and they all want to do more runs!

And while she has been skiing, or at gym practice, Aaron and I have been in the process of closing down Tamarack Sports.  After being in business for over a decade, there's a lot to do, and life got in the way, but we are making progress and will hopefully have it all done by the end of January.  Aaron has rented a new space on Main Street that is home to Hughston Shooting School.  He will continue to do gun training and sales here in this space.

Ice Breaker

Well, no Happy New Year photos this year.  It started off with Emily battling fevers, dizziness, cough, and sore throat.  In fact New Years for us was take out Thai food and a bedtime before 8.

The kids started back to school on Thursday.  Emily did rally and get to gym practice on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and felt well enough to attend the Ice Breaker meet in Twin Falls on Friday night.  It was strange to go to school all day and then travel to a meet for a 5:30 start time.

First up was beam, and during warm ups her nose started to bleed.  That worried her a little bit, but she still scored a 9.15 and won first place.

Then it was of to floor and she had planned to do her new floor routine to Annie's "It's a Hard Knock Life".  Unfortunately, with only practicing it three times, she forgot most of it and made it up as she went.  Luckily, she included everything she needed and still pulled off an 8.65!  On vault she scored an 8.70 and a 9.25 on bars.  She didn't place in those three events, but did get a 4th overall!

Not bad, really, considering she wasn't feeling 100% and few practices over break!
