Last night was the official wrap up of the 2018-2019 gym season with a recital at the local gym.
It's amazing how many new skills the girls have acquired since the last competition.  Emily showed off her flyaway from bars, an improved front tuck on floor, a half on half off on vault, and a headstand and back walkover on beam.  In a week the girls will start the new practice schedule, for Emily it will still be three nights a week, but adding an hour for a total of nine hours a week in the gym.  She's excited, yet so disappointed that the upper level coach is moving away at the end of June and this group's coaching future is currently unknown.

The weekdays continue to fly by, three afternoons a week filled with gymnastics and the other two with track.  On most Saturdays she chooses open gym.  I was surprised that she decided to skip our traditional trip to the Easter Eggstravaganza egg hunt at Zoo Boise last Saturday so she could show me her fly away from the uneven bars!

Sunday afternoons she continues to ride with Meghan.  Emily is consistently chosen as a guinea pig when there is a new horse to try, and Ben was a big hit with her!

The gymnastics season ended on a not so great note at the Idaho State Championship meet held locally at the high school gym.  Emily started off on beam and fell off during her full turn resulting in an 8.575 score.  Floor was an 8.825 and vault was an 8.850. Uneven bars was the last event, and for the first time ever she fell off from her squat on... twice, resulting in a 7.725.  She was so sad and disappointed to not place at all in this event.  State meet requirements state that only the top 6 are awarded, in the big picture she would have placed ninth both vault and beam.  The rest of the weekend was spent with her feeling frustrated, angry, and still sad.  However, by Monday she woke up and set some new goals for the next season and put the last season behind her.

The week after the State Meet was spring break, but for us it was just a staycation.  Emily spent a couple days skiing on Baldy and finished the break by completing in a pond skim at Dollar.  She didn't crash!  She simply ran out of speed and sank to the bottom, staying dry from the knees down.
