Good Clean Fun

Today Emily and I participated in a Bubble Run in Boise. We went over last night and ran some errands since our heat was scheduled at 8 AM. This event's charity partner was Baldapalooza (raising funds for children fighting life threatening illnesses), so we got to have fun AND support a great cause!

And at the first kilometer the bubbles were pink! We were pink afterward, too!

We bumped into our friend Greer!

The second kilometer was blue bubbles!

The bubbles were over your head and you couldn't see a thing while running through them! Emily swallowed some as we went through the blue, she didn't think they tasted that great!

3k was yellow bubbles.

And 4k was green.

And after we crossed the finish line, there were two bubble cannons!

We came home multicolored from head to toe and hope the Bubble Run comes to Boise again!

Weekend Outing

On Friday we headed toward Boise for the weekend. First on the agenda was a Rimfire Challenge in a small town near Boise called Parma. It was Emily's first shooting competition, a very proud moment for Dad!

This challenge involved pistol and rifle, with five turns at each of the 7 stages. Emily wasn't an official competitor, she only had her pistol, and after the first stage dropped down to just three turns at each. It was a great first attempt at competition! She had a slight melt down because she wasn't shooting as well as the grown ups, but she showed great perseverance and even told Dad that she wanted to try it again.

The afternoon adventure was at a new place we discovered called CircusTrix Extreme Air Sports - which is a trampoline park meet ninja warrior. This place was amazing - everyone had fun!

On Sunday it was Aaron's turn to compete, and Emily decided she wanted to stay at the hotel and swim for the morning. Sometimes it is just the simple things that she enjoys!

The weekend started off with Emily getting a stomach bug on Thursday afternoon and the two of us taking Friday off. But by Friday morning she said she was feeling fine and was not happy that we were staying home AND stuck at home. She spent the morning playing and then we took advantage of a gorgeous day and starting our garden seeds in eggshells. Emily did all the work!

Saturday morning was her track meet in Carey. She ran the 25 and 100 and got third in both events, then participated in the long jump but didn't place in the top six.

Then that's when things starting getting exciting! All the warm weather, and an epic snowfall this winter, started to mean the Bigwood River became too big for its banks and started flooding. We spent Saturday afternoon and evening helping friends prepare their home for flood waters, and spent today helping another friend fill sandbags for others that need them. For once I'm glad I don't live by the river! Our house and the store are safe, but there's a lot of water in town!

But before we headed out this morning, Emily learned how to fix a flat this morning!

Angels Above

The sky is filled with angels

With puffy lacy wings

The remnants of God's beauty

With treasures they now bring

Each one of them a guardian

That travels in the sky

To watch throughout eternity

Their parents from on high

Smiles that come from Angels

They fall like crystal rain

Lifting all life's pain

Halos so astounding

That glitter gold each day

Following their loved ones

Go ahead and mention my child.

Butterflies are Free

I thought I saw a butterfly,

Flying in the sky.

The colors were so beautiful,

It made me want to cry.

The Dragonfly Story

Down below the surface of a quiet pond lived a little colony of water bugs. They were a happy colony, living far away from the sun. For many months they were very busy, scurrying over the soft mud on the bottom of the pond. They did notice that every once in awhile one of their colony seemed to lose interest in going about. Clinging to the stem of a pond lily it gradually moved out of sight and was seen no more.

"Look!" said one of the water bugs to another. "one of our colony is climbing up the lily stalk. Where do you think she is going?" Up, up, up it slowly went....Even as they watched, the water bug disappeared from sight. Its friends waited and waited but it didn't return...

"That's funny!" said one water bug to another. "Wasn't she happy here?" asked a second... "Where do you suppose she went?" wondered a third.

No one had an answer. They were greatly puzzled. Finally one of the water bugs, a leader in the colony, gathered its friends together. "I have an idea". "The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk must promise to come back and tell us where he or she went and why."

"We promise", they said solemnly.

One spring day, not long after, the very water bug who had suggested the plan found himself climbing up the lily stalk. Up, up, up, he went. Before he knew what was happening, he had broke through the surface of the water and fallen onto the broad, green lily pad above.

When he awoke, he looked about with surprise. He couldn't believe what he saw. A startling change had come to his old body. His movement revealed four silver wings and a long tail. Even as he struggled, he felt an impulse to move his wings...The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from the new body. He moved his wings again and suddenly found himself up above the water. He had become a dragonfly!!

Swooping and dipping in great curves, he flew through the air. He felt exhilarated in the new atmosphere. By and by the new dragonfly lighted happily on a lily pad to rest. Then it was that he chanced to look below to the bottom of the pond. Why, he was right above his old friends, the water bugs! There they were scurrying around, just as he had been doing some time before. The dragonfly remembered the promise: "the next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk will come back and tell where he or she went and why." Without thinking, the dragonfly darted down. Suddenly he hit the surface of the water and bounced away. Now that he was a dragonfly, he could no longer go into the water..."I can't return!" he said in dismay. "At least, I tried. But I can't keep my promise. Even if I could go back, not one of the water bugs would know me in my new body. I guess I'll just have to wait until they become dragonflies too. Then they'll understand what has happened to me, and where I went." And the dragonfly winged off happily into its wonderful new world of sun and air.......

Thank you God, for the story of the water bugs and the dragonflies.
