Sick Day II

Emily stayed home from daycare yesterday.  When Aaron went to wake her up, he found that she had been sick overnight, and laying in it had caused a rash.  She also seemed cold and extremely snotty.  So, we split the day.  He took the morning shift with her, I took the afternoon one.  I got the shift with the doctor's appointment.  He just thought it was the sage causing the stuffiness, and the nasal drainage caused the vomiting, and the rash had started to go away by itself.  

As you can see, she was feeling better by dinnertime, and went to daycare today.

She's not always happy, just most of the time.  But sometimes, like when Mom takes away the flower she wants to eat, she can work the tears...

Emily loves to have you flip her over.  It started with her flipping off your lap from the couch to the floor.  But Dad's style is more fun - until she waves "No more!"

We have a vole/mouse issue this year.  Dad is outside hunting them with a hose (to flush them out) and a pellet gun.  Emily is fascinated.

Notice her red cheeks?  Appears to be a reaction to the cow's milk.  So, we're going to back off of it until we see the pediatrician in a couple weeks.  The cheeks aren't too bad, but her bum is.  Poor thing, however, she's not letting it slow her down.  The cold is lingering for all of us - runny nose, a cough.  Yuck.  Then there's the two bottom teeth where the corners have poked through, but they are just taking their sweet time breaking all the way.  Daycare is going okay.  She made it all five days this week, and by the end of it she was starting to leave the provider's side to go out and play with the other kiddos.  Up until this point, Emily was okay with the kids as long as she was within touching distant of an adult.  She's a great napper there, getting almost 4 hours throughout the day.  Not bad.  Maybe that's why she gets to wake up happy in the morning?

While I was at school for Curriculum Night, Emily helped Dad make apple crisp -

And, she has always loved to try adult sized glasses for a drink.  She's getting better...

Yesterday Emily gave whole milk a try.  It was time.

Early Riser!

Emily didn't get the memo that it was Sunday and we could sleep in today -

So, we started our day with a Baby Einstein video on the laptop

Emily was able to learn a little about farming as she watched Baby MacDonald A Day on the Farm while the coffee brewed for Mom and Dad.

She was pretty excited about it.

Happy Birthday Emily! (round 2)

Today Emily turned one - adjusted age that is.

We celebrated by staying home sick.  I know, bummer.  Daycare had us pick her up early yesterday because she sounded pretty wheezy.  We got her into the clinic to see our local family practitioner, and luckily her oxygen was good and her x-rays came back clear.

So, it just seems to be bronchial and she's getting at least 4 breathing treatments a day.  I was able to stay home with her today, and we decided to keep her home tomorrow, but Aaron and I will split it so neither one of us misses a full day at work.

I think fall is here.  It's cooler, the days are shorter, and the leaves are starting to change color.  We spent a little time outdoors today to get some fresh air.  She's intent on that purple leaf.

Gerda, the dog, is pretty patient in letting Emily crawl over, tumble into, or hang onto her fur.

So, happy birthday little girl.  Who knows how our life could be different if this was really the twins' birthday.  We (probably) would have avoided the NICU, the surgeries, the worries, the hospitalizations, the weakened immune systems, the frequent appointments, and yes, the sadness and grief.  No one can answer why life happens the way it does, but we are the proud parents of our princess on earth and our angel in heaven.

Pardon me for not blogging very often.  Yes, I'm back and work and quite exhausted, but as you can see, Emily hasn't been very photogenic lately either -

Poor Emily has been more stuffy lately than squishy.  Although, at the moment she's peacefully napping.

Let's just hope she gets over this soon!

Determined

Still working on those puzzle pieces!  Emily stayed home with Aaron today, daycare had a planned closure, but it was good timing.  Both have colds... notice how she can still crack a smile even though she isn't feeling well.

Homecoming

It was one year ago today that our little miracle girl checked out of Hotel St Luke's NICU and came home.

She was hovering around five pounds, had to wear the apnea monitor, and took a series of medications.
Look at her now -

She's walking, has new little pals at daycare, sleeps all night, charms strangers at the store with her smile and big blue eyes, and is just a happy little toddler.

She has been very focused on her name puzzle since Monday.  She'll pick up the letters to her name and is really working hard at holding them in one hand.  But the "m" and "y" are to wide and causes her to drop the "i" and "l".  She works so hard at it, and is so patient, that it's hard not to try and help her.

Sorry about the lack of postings.  It's back to school time, which means a busy and exhausted blogger.  ;)  Emily has had a great two days as a full time daycare kid.

2010 Wagon Days Parade

Today we went and watched the parade in Ketchum.  (Notice that Grandma is in the pictures.  She has been here all week and watched Emily while I was preparing for the new school year.   Grandma goes home tomorrow, and Emily will go into daycare on Tuesday.)

Emily's favorite part was the duck in costume, I believe, since halfway through the parade she started her nap.  After the parade, we went to the village at the Sun Valley Lodge and walked around.  She loved that water at the duck pond, as well.
