Aaron went out of town for a few days this week, but Emily and I managed to stay very busy.
One day she asked if I would build with her. I told her I had to go put something in the kitchen and would come back and do it. When I returned, this is what I found -
We went to Twin on Tuesday for a physical therapy evaluation. Kicking and jumping have been her goals since last April. And finally she did it on cue. Jan had this really great obstacle course set up for her. Emily had to get on a balance board, go up two stairs, down one, up three, crawl though a tunnel, go down a slide, jump on a trampoline, hop on three spots, pick up toys, step over a balance beam, put the toys in a basket, and then go back to the balance board. Emily did this for an hour. And considering the last two sessions with Jan only accomplished a temper tantrum, this session was a complete success.
The only thing we have to work on now is going up the stairs leading with both feet (she's right side dominant at this point) and jumping more symmetrically.
One morning before school, Emily sat down with her Baby and had breakfast, making sure Baby was well fed. It's so fun to watch her interact and pretend play with her babies and play food.
My favorite quote of the week followed some random conversation. Emily stuck out her pointer finger, waved it back and forth, and said, "No, no, no. I'm not asking you, I tell you!" Then she took that finger on bopped me on the nose.
She went swimming at the pool yesterday and sledding this morning. Phew, everyone is wiped out!

Yesterday was her Dad's birthday. While I baked a birthday treat, Emily tried making some treats of her own.
Yum, marshmallows!
And then the snow came...
Everybody was having some fun playing in it as we all attempted to clean up the drive and walkways.
Emily spent more time on the ground than in the snow... it was a little deeper than one all bundled up could handle easily!
But she still managed to have a great time! Look at that smile!

Emily had an okay week. Last weekend started off wheezy and she battled a fever for the first few days of the week. Now it's just back to a runny nose and an infrequent cough. She was kind enough to share with her parents, however.
So, we've been doing lots of puzzles.
And playing with babies. The newest one that she received at Christmas she named Kelly. She's really good at saying Emily, Kelly, and Hughston... but can't quite get the idea that Daddy might be an Aaron. In fact, one day over Christmas break she looked at him and asked, "You're a Hughston?"
Thank goodness we have an extra day tomorrow to work on recovery!
So, we've been doing lots of puzzles.
And today she made me lunch with tea.

A Visit From An Old "Friend"
It's been awhile, it's (not) so good to see you again, Mr. Nebulizer. But we're glad that you do the job you do.
Especially when a wheeze and a cough wake us up at 4 AM, when all Emily has had was a clear, runny nose and an infrequent cough. It was pretty sad when she verbalized that "It hurts." The first treatment helped out a lot, but we followed up at the clinic to get our prescription of albuterol refilled. And Emily is now old enough for an inhaler version, which is way more portable than the nebulizer. She also got a flu shot since we were there. As we were leaving, between whimpers, she told me, "That not fun!" Followed by, "Get a treat?" I said, "Yes, Emi, see the doctor, get a treat." Yep, she scored another muffin.
She had a fairly uneventful day, with a long, peaceful nap... But now that she's laid down for the night I can hear her coughing more. I'm hoping we all get rest tonight...
