Camping at Baker Creek

We spent a night at Baker Creek.  

Emily played in the creek.

And did lots of exploring of rocks, pinecones, sticks, and wildflowers.

Friday

We started off the morning at story time.  She's saying good bye to the book bunny puppet -

Emi loves reading/looking at books at home, but isn't so enthusiastic about listening at the library.  She would prefer to take the books off the shelf and look at ones she's selected.  However, between the three stories that are read, the librarian sings songs and there's a craft at the end which Emi does like, so we go.

Then off to the park.  Once upon a time, all Emily would do is go down the slide.  Then it transitioned to wanting only the swing.  Now, it's a lot of swinging but turning into climbing.  She's a monkey.  She can climb practically anything.

2 year well check

Emily weighed 22 pounds today and was 33 inches long.  She's fitting right in on the growth curve now!

This was our final visit with Dr. Scott, who is finally able to retire on September.  She wasn't only our pediatrician, but she's also a neonatologist in the Twin Falls NICU, so when she called Emily "normal" today, it meant a lot.  Most 27 weekers don't end up as lucky as Emi.

She was really impressed with Emily's speech.  Emily is either talking or singing almost constantly these days.  We must sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star 100 times a day.  Dr. Scott doesn't have any concerns, and agreed that we could go to physical therapy every three months on a monitor basis.  And she does want us to visit a dermatologist about the aplasia cutis spot on her scalp - not because she's concerned, but wanted a dermatologist to be aware of it and watch it as Emily continues to grow.

It was a different story yesterday -

Emily spent all day on the couch (or in Dad's chair) with a 102 fever.  Summer dehydration and 2 molars coming in...

A Week With Just Dad...

I had to attend a week long math training, so Dad and Emily spent the week together... here's the photo evidence that they had a good time and both were able to survive without me.  

Then last night we attended a NRA banquet that Aaron spearheaded.  Emily's shirt read "My Dad can shoot better than your dad."  Appropriate, right?  And a necessity in every 2 year old girl's closet?  It was a big hit with the crowd...

Summer is quickly slipping away.  Hope everyone is enjoying it!

Doggie!

This girl loves dogs.  Out and about, riding in a car, or on the TV, she'll happily shout out "Doggie!"  Followed by "I touch it."  You'd never know that she has a lab of her own at home, who has become a lot more tolerant of being Emily's jungle gym, pillow, and at times even a step stool...

Hot Days

This past week has been pretty hot.  So, after daycare yesterday, we came home and played in the water -

She still loves being outside.

Friday is one of her days home and not in daycare.  Like last Friday, we went to story time at the library and then met friends at Jimmy's Garden.

The 4th of July

Emily likes to help raise the flag up in the mornings.  Except when she says "flag" it sounds more like "fat guy".  We saw a lot of "fat guys" over the weekend.

Yesterday, Emily and I started off at the kids' carnival where we watched our friends, Isabella and Gia, play.

Then we met up with Dad to watch the parade.  Emily loved the horse or dog entries, but wasn't so entertained by the cars and floats.

We escaped the midday heat at naptime, and prepared for 2 evening BBQs. Emily had a great time at both.  The first place had a slide and a swing to play on...

 and a rubber raft was great entertainment out of the water...

 but, she also got to participate in her first water balloon toss with Dad...

but the second place was just as fun, with balloons and more kids running around...

 and fireworks that she managed to stay awake for and learned how to "oooh" and "aaaah" and say "pretty!" about...

On a side note, this by no means is a food blog, because I don't have that talent, but I got this cake idea from Glorious Treats blogspot, who got it from 17 and Baking, and since it was easy enough, I thought it was a pretty cool thing to take the BBQ...

Beginning of a Holiday Weekend

We helped Dad out this morning at his competition shoot by taking pictures before they got started.

Then we walked to the "antique" fairs that rolled into town.  We were looking for a prism to hang in the window to make our own Bee-bos (rainbows) like at daycare.  Emily loves to stomp and slap the light patches that shine on the floor and furniture in the morning, and for the longest time we couldn't figure out why she kept screaming "Bee-bos!"  Luckily, Pat was able to translate for us. 

Then we found a yard that was covered in pine cones.  Yep, Emily insisted on stopping and filling her hat with them, just like she did on the Waterfall Trail last week.  She would have kept going and going...but I was able to distract her with some flowers up a block.  I left the person's pine cones behind. 

Then we built.  Actually I had to build and then Emily would break it apart.  It went more like this "Uh-oh, I broke it."  Then she would pop the pieces apart.

A little lunch.  Now, hoping for a long nap...
